"Eventually my cracks caused massive holes that couldn’t be repaired,

and I found myself without a boat. I started to question everything. No

one had good answers. “Have more faith.” “Pray more.” “You’re sinning to

even ask these questions.” “The devil wants you to question, so don’t.”

Not answers so much, but certainty to patch a boat that was at the bottom

of the lake. I found one thing and clung tight. Love. Love seemed to

hold up over time. I could be certain that Love conquered all.

Then I came out as transgender. A moment in time where I took

control of my own story like I never had before. I was certain again. Certain

that I knew nothing except who I was, and I needed to start there.

At that point, I was pretty sure things couldn’t get more uncertain, but I

was wrong. When you come out as trans, your world is turned upside

down. Any confidence you might have in moving through the world is

altered. It’s anything but certain."
